Your materials in. Great lessons out.

Checkmate turns your notes, PDFs and courses into slides, tests, flashcards and study guides — then helps you grade, spot what each class needs and sync grades to PowerSchool. You stay in charge of every word.

Copilot for slides

A colleague who read your notes — and your gradebook.

Describe the lesson and Copilot builds or edits the deck by working through your own courses and uploads. Choose a class and it looks at that class’s results to focus on what they found hardest.

  • Uses your uploaded materials, one section at a time — not a generic template
  • Targets a class using aggregate results, never individual student data
  • Writes speaker notes and alt text, and credits the images it finds
  • Won’t invent statistics, quotes or citations — it asks instead

Courses hold your context

Units, lessons, notes, uploaded files and links. Everything you generate can draw on them.

Present anywhere

Present from the browser, share a view link, or export when you need a file.

Edit by asking

“Split slide 4”, “simpler words for Grade 6”, “add a quick check” — small, precise edits.

Review mode

Ask for feedback on a deck without letting Copilot change anything.

Beyond slides

Everything after the lesson, too.

Assessment, practice and feedback built on the same materials — so nothing needs to be set up twice.

Copilot does the busywork

Tell Copilot what you need — “set up Biology 9 with these eight units and make a quiz for unit 1” — and it creates the course, adds the units and starts the quiz from your materials. It works from any page, or full screen.

  • Anything students would see — publishing, assigning, releasing grades — waits for your OK
  • Links to everything it made, and it never claims work it didn’t do

Tests that grade themselves — carefully

Generate questions from your materials across 11 question types, from multiple choice to essays and code. Objective questions grade instantly; written answers get suggested scores and feedback that you review and override.

  • Partial credit and a lenient-to-strict grading setting
  • Fullscreen, tab-switch and copy/paste checks, with teacher unlock
  • An itemised integrity report for every submission

Flashcards with spaced repetition

Turn a course unit, a PDF or your notes into a flashcard set. Each student’s review schedule adapts card by card, so study time goes to what they haven’t mastered yet.

  • Share by link or push a set to Blooket
  • Students can make their own sets when your school allows it

Study guides and worksheets

Build study guides and printable or online worksheets from the same course materials, then edit anything before it reaches students.

A writing coach that won’t write for them

On document assignments where you switch it on, students can ask for feedback, help getting started, a thesis check or a clarity pass. The coach asks questions and points at their own words — it doesn’t hand over sentences.

  • Replay how a document was written
  • See typed vs. pasted text and focus changes

One grading inbox

Tests, worksheets and documents waiting for you land in one queue. Review suggested grades, leave feedback and return work without hunting through classes.

PowerSchool grade sync

Connect with your PowerSchool sign-in and release grades to your gradebook. Checkmate never sees your PowerSchool password.

How it works

From a folder of notes to a graded class.

  1. 1

    Bring your materials

Set up a course, add your syllabus, notes, PDFs, slides and links — Checkmate finds your units automatically. Everything else builds on them.

  2. 2

    Generate, then edit

Make slides, tests, worksheets, flashcards or a study guide for any unit or lesson — then change anything. Nothing goes out until you publish it.

  3. 3

    Assign, grade, sync

Assign to classes, grade from one inbox, watch class results and release grades to PowerSchool.

Academic integrity

Work that’s really theirs.

Copying, looking answers up mid-test and passing off AI or someone else’s writing as their own shouldn’t fly. Checkmate is built to make cheating hard to do and impossible to hide — with evidence you can see, not a black-box score.

  • Evidence, not guesses
  • You make the final call
  • Rules set per assignment

Tests that are hard to game

Checkmate watches for the moves students use to look things up mid-test, and shows you exactly what happened.

  • Detects tab switches, leaving fullscreen, copy/paste, right-click, print, developer tools and Google Lens-style overlays
  • Strict mode locks the test on a violation — only you can unlock it, with a one-time code
  • Limits on tab switches, time, attempts and availability windows, set per test
  • A 0–100 suspicion score and an itemised, printable report for every submission

See how every essay was written

Instead of guessing whether text is “AI-written”, Checkmate records how the work was actually made.

  • Keystroke-level writing replay — watch the document come together from the first word
  • Typed-vs-pasted timeline, with large pastes flagged and previewed
  • Writing sessions and real active time, not just “last edited”
  • Facts you can show a student or parent, not an opaque verdict

AI that coaches, never writes

Students get help thinking, not a ghostwriter. You decide per assignment whether the coach is on.

  • The writing coach points at the student’s own sentences and asks questions — it can’t hand back rewritten paragraphs
  • That rule is enforced in code, not just requested in a prompt
  • Every coach session is logged in the document history you review
  • Turn it off for any assignment where you want no AI at all

No software can stop every form of cheating. Checkmate makes it hard to do, easy to spot, and leaves the decision with the teacher.

For every audience

Not every room is a classroom.

Tell Copilot who you’re presenting to and it changes the structure, tone and examples to fit.

Your classes

Lessons that build step by step, with check-for-understanding moments and an exit ticket. Point Copilot at a class and it targets what that class found hardest.

Parents & families

Curriculum nights and info evenings in plain, jargon-free language: what students will learn, how families can help at home, and how to get in touch.

Plain languageNo quizzesContact & next steps

Also works for leadership and board updates, clubs, conferences and self-study.

Security & privacy

Built for student data from day one.

Checkmate is built by students, for schools. We collect what’s needed to teach and nothing for advertising, and we keep teachers in control of everything the AI produces.

School-controlled accounts

Schools are set up by request, teachers join by invitation, and students join classes with a teacher’s code.

Strict roles and isolation

Students see only their own work; teachers only their classes; each organization’s data is kept separate.

Credentials handled with care

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt, reset links are single-use and expire, and PowerSchool tokens are encrypted at rest.

Audited, controlled AI

Student AI is off until a school enables it, with per-student limits. Sign-ins and admin actions are audit-logged.

Questions, answered

Can students just use ChatGPT to do the work?

Not without it showing. Tests run with fullscreen, tab-switch and copy/paste checks and can lock on a violation. Written work keeps a full writing replay, so text pasted in from elsewhere stands out. Checkmate gives you evidence rather than an AI-detector guess — you make the call.

How does my school get access?

A school administrator requests access from the Get started page. Once the organization is set up, the administrator is invited as its owner and can invite teachers by email.

Can students sign up on their own?

No. Students create their account by joining a class with a code from their teacher, so every student account belongs to a class.

Does the AI grade without me?

Objective questions (multiple choice, true/false, numeric and similar) are graded instantly. Written answers get a suggested score and feedback that you can review, adjust or override before returning work.

Where does Copilot get its content?

From what you give it: your courses and uploaded materials, plus aggregate results for a class you choose. It is instructed never to invent statistics, quotes, citations or class data — if it doesn’t have a source, it leaves it out or asks.

What can Copilot do on its own?

The things you can do yourself: set up courses and units, create classes, make slides, quizzes, worksheets and flashcards, check what needs grading and start AI grading. It only touches your own courses and classes, and anything students would see — publishing, assigning, releasing grades — shows you exactly what will happen and waits for your click.

Can students use AI tools inside Checkmate?

Only if their school turns it on. Student AI features are off by default and rate-limited per student, and the writing coach is enabled per assignment by the teacher.

Does it work with PowerSchool and Blooket?

Yes. Teachers can connect PowerSchool to release grades to their gradebook, and push flashcard sets to Blooket.
